Artist Statement
Yiftach Belsky is a conceptual artist who offers us an intimate, postmodern, view into the lives of others, by exploring the fine line between national security and personal privacy. Whether created through photo documentation or surveillance, his work is at once alienating and intrusive, often dealing with the way human subjects seek order in chaos, as a means of self-examination and understanding. Voyeuristic yet self-reflective, Belsky seeks to close the gap between perception and understanding through an exploration, rather than an expression, of conceptual imagery. Belsky’s work fills the gap where silence prevails. Issues concerning manhood, survival, and the nature-culture dichotomy come to the fore, creating a poignant reflection on individual identity in a postmodern age.
