Artist Statement
The experience of getting very close to a subject is remarkably similar to that of standing far away from it. Think of molecular and astronomical imagery. In both cases the subject transforms. Things unseen become clearer in a way that can only be seen from these altered viewpoints. In this work I find myself getting closer, looking for space inside of space. I take the time to gaze into seemingly vacant, unheeded topographies looking for a hidden language. I look with my eyes to see what can be seen with my eyes. I then use photography to see what can be seen with photography.
