Artist Statement
Wernick's focus includes self-portraits, the natural world, fashion, and abstract nude photography while highlighting the world's controversial, social and environmental issues. Inspired by Baroque, Impressionist, Surrealist, and Contemporary artists and poets, Wernick evolves her identity daily through various mediums.
Process Statement
As a visual artist, Wernick explores the world and her identity in the following mediums - oil and acrylic paints, ink, analog, and digital photography, alternative processes (tintypes and cyanotypes), collage, video, installation (indoor and outdoor), mixed media, and natural paints using earth and mineral pigments and organic ingredients.
Whitney Erin Wernick (b. 1995) received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photographic and Studio Art practices from Santa Fe University of Art and Design in 2018. Wernick is an American artist who shares her connection with her body, nature, and today's world using an unforgiving and in-your-face creative technique. Wernick's focus includes self-portraits, the natural world, fashion, and abstract nude photography while highlighting the world's controversial, social and environmental issues. In collaborating with her subjects - herself, nature, and others - she utilizes each experience to uncover the softness and rarity that can lie within connection, self-love, vitality, and the human psyche.
