Simon Hipkins is a film-maker and photographer based in London. He was born in the North West of England in 1979 and started taking photographs at the age of ten. After studying film and photography at Napier University in Edinburgh, he travelled widely working as a freelance cameraman. At 23, he formed his own production company, making a series of award winning television documentaries and short films. In 2009 he won the ‘Best Fiction’ prize at the Tehran International Film Festival for his short drama, 'The Last Regal Kingsize'. He was also nominated for a British Academy Award. He has worked as a cinematographer, editor, producer and director across both documentary and fiction for clients including the Irish Film Board, Scottish Screen, BBC and Channel Four (UK). In addition to his film work he maintains and a strong passion for documentary photography and is currently working on long term projects which combine still and moving images. In 2013 he was named one of the winners of the Magenta Foundation's Emerging Photographer Awards.
