Artist Statement
My introduction to photography came while workings as Art Director in Naples, Italy. At the time I was concerned with the documentation of events. I later continued on to an MFA in Photography and gained a deeper understanding of the visual and conceptual structure in an image. This discovery pushed me to research in depth what my role is within photography and how I could use that to my advantage. The search for something intangible present in us and its relationship to the environment is at the base of all my work.
Process Statement
I find to work well with larger formats and specifically with film. More than the outcome of these mediums I am interested in the process and how that creates a certain relationship with my subject. I often do extensive research on my subject before hand and try to spend as much time as possible so that I am aware of some of the emotional context. Often the process of photography is more about discovering my position in relation to an idea than merely documenting.
