Artist Statement
Photography is only a means to an end, a tool to be used to explore a concepts that are too complex to be framed by words. Once you get beyond the technical aspects of creating an image, the rest is pure imagination.
Process Statement
It starts with a concept first. A simple neuronic firing of synapsis, responding to some stimuli, usually something I saw out of the corner of my eye.
Then comes the sketch book, furious scribbling in a rest stop on the highway, while my passengers look on impatiently.
Preproduction on a shoot concept follows the simple step by step of sourcing materials and people until the desired needs of the shoot are fulfilled.
And then comes the moment when the concept/sketchbook pages intersect with real world physics of light and gravity.
No plan absolutely survives contact.

Matt McKee has been creating photographs ever since he was handed a Polaroid Zip camera at age 7, to keep him from drawing on the walls with crayons. Of course, that did not really help, since the resulting polaroids were glued, taped and stapled up instead.
A ten year long stint in higher education resulted in a couple of degrees and an extensive knowledge, now mostly forgotten, of an almost extinct tool of imaging: film.
All of which has influenced his journey as a portraitist of concepts, professionals and ephemera.
