Introduction
Lynn Bianchi’s Heavy in White and Globe series span time and space. Each its own portal into a unique fantasy world, the vastly different scenarios and evocations of the two remain closely connected through the recurring, powerful, central female figure. The women of Heavy in White, while steeped in earthly concerns of beauty and food, revel in their pleasures. They live free of judgments and constraints, utterly unconcerned with the traditional expectations for female appearance and behavior in polite society. The Globe women are in many ways the natural progression of their Heavy in White counterparts. The women who once prettied themselves in mirrors and dug robustly into sugared cakes and steaming bowls of pasta graduated, in a sense. Globe women are wise and unbothered; they have shed the desires and needs of the earth. Now quiet, enlightened, they have lost their old exuberance but replaced it with Universal calm. One ethereal, one solidly on the ground, both series celebrate the female figure and the peace that comes with within.
