“Urban Secret Garden” is a work in progress. It consists of three chapters: “Urban Secret Garden - why the night”, “Urban Secret Garden - Mediterranean air” & “Urban Secret Garden - the Ano Poli suite”. The project started as an improvisation of an aimless walk. At first, during my dawn-walks, I reflected on the “floral fabric motifs of my childhood in the women’s prêt-a-porter family business” (established in Thessaloniki’s 1970s, to close down in late 1990’s). Very soon, I focused on the cityscape. Thessaloniki since 2008, just as the whole country, experiences a major socioeconomic crisis. I came across abandoned buildings, small-scale hovels, construction sites, vacant parking lots, closed down enterprises - all human wounds. The stroll is uncertain and so am I. Current history is under construction.
