Lene Münch was born in Cologne, Germany in 1983. She studied documentary photography and photojournalism at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hanover, Germany, at the Danish School of Media and Journalism in Århus, Denmark (2009) and at the International Center of Photography in New York (2012).
She is most interested in photographing tiny parallel worlds; groups of people who distinguish themselves from society. Be it their beliefs, their activities or their places of residence. Inconspicuous medium format pictures establish her photographical focus.
Lene’s work has been awarded with a VG Bildkunst Project Grant, a DAAD-Scholarship, the Emerging BFF Award, the VGH-Award, the Canon Profifoto Grant and the New York Photo Award. She has been selected for the participation in the Eddie Adams Workshop (2011) and the Bruce Gilden Masterclass at LOOK3 Photofestival (2012).
Her pictures were exhibited in the US (ICP, New York Photo Festival), Germany (C/O Berlin, Visual Gallery, 2nd Lumix-Festival for young photojournalism, FotoDoks 2010), France (Visa pour l’image – off Festival) and Finnland (Photographic Centre Peri).
Lene lives and works as a freelance photographer in Berlin, Germany.
