Artist Statement
With my work I want to illustrate my inner feelings and thoughts. In the end, I transport my position towards the environment with my photographs. For me, this means to stand in silence, concentration and respect in front of my photographic objects. Your photographic position mirrors your way of life – when you are authentic and not an actor!
Process Statement
The whole photographic and digital processes Herbert does himself, to stand very close to his unique results.
Herbert Böttcher was born in Rietberg in 1962. The graduate designer lives in Düsseldorf and has been working as a freelance photographer since 1993. Herbert’s work focuses on the conception and realisation of photo projects for companies, exhibitions and publications. His cooperation partners include well-known companies and associations from Germany and abroad. Herbert's free and applied works have already been awarded several times.
From 1988 to 1993 he studied visual communication in the faculty of photo/film design at the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences. From 1995 to 1999 he taught in the faculty of art at the University of Paderborn.
Herbert’s works illustrate his photographic attitude, are based on his very individual photographic language and always follow a consistent concept. Far beyond »... loading, aiming, shooting...« (Susan Sontag) it is quiet and highly concentrated approaches to the subject that condense the picture’s message - and a photography of passion.
