Introduction
I have been drawn to photographing the inner world of glass for several years. I enter this hidden world through the lens as I attempt to recreate my perception of the natural world. Glass is an amorphous solid. It has orderly characteristics of a solid, as well as the randomness of a liquid. With glass and natural light, I can create a myriad of textures as diverse as that of any painter or sculptor.
In the 'Tangible Light Formations' project, I have created a body of formations of inner space sculpted through light right when daylight is disappearing. The formations are 'carved' with tiny movements of the glass and the play of light and shadow. The resulting works sit on the cusp of being there but only just, a presence that is disappearing even as it is created. My goal is to arouse an higher experience or sensation for the viewer, bridging the gap between the presence of the inner and the outer world.
