Dirceu Maués was born in Belém do Pará, Brazil, in 1968. He currently lives in Brasília, where he works as an artist and a photographer. He started his career as a photographer in 1990, working for big newspaper companies of Belém. He develops a signature work in the fields of photography and video, based on researches on the building of homemade cameras and nonprofessional devices. In 2009, he was sponsored by Rumos Itaú Cultural program as a resident artist in Künstlerhaus Bethanien, in Berlin, Germany. In the same year, he was granted the Funarte Financial Aid for artistic creation and took part in the program FNAC – Meetings with Photography. He also took part as a guest artist in the 16th Biennial of Cerveira (Portugal, 2011) and in the 17th International Festival of Contemporary Art SESC-Videobrasil (São Paulo, 2011), where he was awarded with a Residence in the WBK – Vrije Academy, in The Hague, Netherlands. His works are part of the following collections: Pirelli-Masp Photography Collection, FNAC Collection, International Festival of Contemporary Art SESC-Videobrasil, MAC - PR (Museum of Contemporary Art – Paraná, Brazil), MARP (Museum of Fine Arts of Ribeirão Preto), MEP (State Museum of Pará), Joaquim Paiva Collection and Rubens Fernandes Junior Collection.
