Artist Statement
The career of Bea Nettles began in 1970 with “Photography Into Sculpture,” at the Museum of Modern Art. She received two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships.
Her work is in numerous texts, has been reviewed in The New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Art in America, Art Week, Art News, and is reproduced internationally.
She has taught and delivered lectures and workshops internationally and is widely recognized for her innovations in mixed media photography and photographic books.
Process Statement
These composites convey the poetic impact of certain landscapes,aspects of classical architecture and art history on my life that remain in my memory, resurfacing unexpectedly. They represent my effort to clarify and find meaning in daily existence. Often epiphanies often occur while traveling. I'm recording a sense of place and the selective, multi-layered nature of memory.The images have been created by scanning original film negatives and placing them in the grid format in Photoshop.
