Rod Morata was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1976, and grew up in Staten Island. Rod graduated from the School of Visual Arts with a BFA in photography in 2002. His photographic interest stayed close to home with a long-term personal project that revolves around family, consisting of self-portraits and portraits of other family members.
In 2003 Rod shot the Spring/Summer 55DSL campaign for Diesel Brand, The European based clothing company. This campaign for their extreme sportswear line appeared in magazines in the US and Europe including: Black Book, Dazed and Confused, The Fader, Stance, Surfer, Vice, and While You Were Sleeping.
Other clients include: Mass Appeal, Nerve.com, Newsweek, Newsweek Japan, Positive Thinking, Rawkus Records, Scratch Magazine, Woman’s Health, and The Wall Street Journal.
Morata’s work has appeared in numerous group show and nonprofit spaces throughout America including Art and General, Space One Eleven, and the Art + Commerce Festival of Emerging Photographers. In 2009 Morata’s work appeared in Magenta’s Flash Forward book and accompanying exhibition in Toronto, Canada. In 2010 Morata’s work was included in Susan Bright’s book on contemporary photography Auto Focus from the Monacelli Press.
