Artist Statement
(Born 1984, Dixon, Illinois) Living with synesthesia means I see the world in many layers and colours. Sight may mingle with sound, taste with touch. My art expresses psychological states in landscape for viewers to engage in perceptual contemplation. Moving to Norway and surviving auto-immune disease offered me opportunities to study relationships between biology and toxicology, physiology and psychology. Immersive experiences of swimming in the black bottomed lake Ånøya and hiking through sapphire twilight in Lofoten moved me to take up methods used in resonance recordings to connect my work with geological records of places in space/time. The art in designing these new works, grows upon the sense of reverence for nature, while moving the physical senses of a Place into a tactile experience.
