Lowlands is an outer and inner journey to a place and a mood. Martin Bogren has returned to the village in southern skane province where he grew up to profile its people and places. But behind the documentary narrative shaped in a more personal story of childhood and adolescence, the longing to get away and dream of something that was bigger than the village.
” There is a hill just outside the village. From there you could see the road leading away. I walk up the path, counting two hundred and five steps. When I was a child, this was a mountain. Two hundred and five steps. That’s all you needed to view the world.” (foreword for the book)
