Elephant Memory

According to legend elephants have remarkable memories.
Unfortunately, I am not blessed with this gift. To facilitate remembrance,
I photograph.
The elephant is my favorite animal and I seem to always be looking for him. Elephant Memory is a document of things that attracted my attention that I believed worthy of preservation. Everything changes. Many of the objects in this compendium no longer exist and the ones that do, most likely won’t survive for long.
My interest was in what humans created and their signature on the landscape. It was the trace of man rather than his actual physical presence that fascinated me.
All the images in this collection, with the exception of one, were taken on the North American continent over the past three decades. A variety of formats and cameras were used, including 4x5, 5x7, 8x10 & 11x14 Deardorff view cameras, Rolleiflex Twin Lens Reflexes, Hasselblads, plastic Dianas, 35mm M series Leicas, and others. The original prints were either hand coated platinum/palladium contacts or enlargements made on commercially coated gelatin silver emulsion paper.
