Images from the self-published book project Welcome Home: Building the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival, 2009. This project is a long-term photo documentary project on the tight-knit worker community of Michfest, one of the oldest and largest lesbian feminist gatherings in the world.
I am a visual storyteller interested in exploring and communicating the under- and un-told stories of people and communities on the margins of the larger society in which they exist, especially those who are redefining the boundaries of gender and sexuality.
I am a documentary photographer with long experience as a photojournalist and I approach storytelling with respect for my subjects, and according to the ethics of my field. I try to document what I see and understand. As an artist, I have also challenged myself to explore what is close to my own life and experience, and to include my own self and life in my work.
