Artist Statement
Sharon Boothroyd is a photographic artist. She lectures in photography on the BA (hons) degree at Banbury in connection with De Montford University.
Boothroyd is the recipient of prestigious awards in the UK, Canada and America including a Flash Forward Magenta Award, Royal Photographic Society bursary, Arts Council and the International Photography Awards in New York. She has also been featured in photography publications such as The Lucie Awards and Royal Photographic Society Journal.
Boothroyd gained a first class honours in Contemporary Photographic Practice. She then completed a Fellowship with Northumbria University funded by an Individual Artist Award from the Arts Council. She was the artist in residence in Ponteland First School in collaboration with the Arts Council England.
Boothroyd completed her MA in Photographic Studies at Westminster University. Her work was exhibited in the MA show 'LIGHT SENSITIVE', presented at P3 Ambika Gallery, London, September 2010. Her work features in solo and group exhibitions across the country and is represented in private collections.
Process Statement
This selection of images is from 2 series of work. The portraits of my daughter are part of a work in progress called Anais (Untitled).
The others are from "If you get married again, will you still love me?" These photographic tableaux are based on words spoken to separated fathers by their children. After gathering the memories, Boothroyd produced visual representations of these phrases, drawing upon emotions the child may have been dealing with at the time.
