Direct Positive Images, Spring-Summer 2009
Introduction
Pictures are taken with a large format plate camera (13x18 cm) directly on photographic paper, which then is processed as a reversal material. Thus we get a positive image on that the same piece of paper which was exposed in the camera. Printing as a process, even the contact one, is not involved at all. In other words, the image is not transferred from one carrier to another as is the case in the traditional method - from negative on paper. Thus, the resulting image - a paper shot/direct positive image - acquires status, in the same degree as a negative, of a document of the fact that shooting took place. Naturally, a term 'edition' is not applicable here, and each paper shot becomes a unique image.
