Artist Statement
before and after night porter is my latest book published by kehrer with a foreword by simon baker photography curator at the tate modern-it describes three projects and 96 prints now owned by the tate museum and collector michael wilson.

Process Statement
I take black and white photos and develope black and white films which i then print in a wet darkroom -where i make fibre-based archival black and white prints in .....three sizes usually-16 x12(30x40 ) some..20x16(40x50)..some 12x9 (24x30)
1983-borrows a library book in hamilton ontario which has a reproduction of ikko narraharas two bins suspended
in mid air from new mexico series-sees this picture-returns to uk to study photography.
1986-1989 B.A hons photography surrey college of A&D UK

1989/90 living in budapest selling dollars/doctor martins and teaching english p/t

1991/2 selling photographic equipment in KJP and JESSOPS photo shops LONDON
1993-became homeless -started working in hotels as a night porter because the first job came with accomodation
1997-first night porter photos published in camera austria
2001-received project assistant grant of 5000 euros from rencontres arles(france)
2002-met erik kessels and sold my first fibre based prints 4 for 600 euros.night porter 6 pages. published in the first edition of FOAM.
2004-won the independent on sunday(london)fashion photography competition prize 10000 pounds-judged by alexander mcqueen and nick knight.
2005-exhibited night porter solo exhibitions liverpool,london,paris,arles-also group shows sydney/brussels
2006-life as a night porter published by twin palms an A3 sized black and white book
2008-started weeds of wallasey project.
2009-solo exhibition roy khamen(hup gallery)amsterdam
2011-solo exhibition at tokyo photo in conjunction with simon baker and tate modern-BEFORE AND AFTER NIGHT PORTER...exhibited with danziger projects at paris photo grand palais
2012-may-exhibited night porter at perm photo museum-russia
november -before and after night porter hardback book published by kehrer heidelberg
paris photo-tate purchasing committee decide to purchase 32 prints from weeds of wallasey series for their permanent collection.
