Introduction
Growing up in Newark, NJ our family fled the city and spent summers at the Jersey shore. Summers at Bradley Beach were magical. Days playing in the surf, hot dogs and French fries for lunch and a 10-cent allowance for the evenings spent at the penny arcade accumulating ticket points to be redeemed for prizes. On weekends my brother and I would walk down the boardwalk to Asbury Park where the rides were waiting. Since my childhood, daytrips, weekends, and weeklong summer rentals at the shore has always been part of my life.
To the casual onlooker the Jersey shore might seem to reflect the notoriety of the TV series “Jersey Shore” or maybe just the thrill of a Seaside ride, but those concepts belie the truth. Along the 120 miles of the Jersey shore here is a uniqueness of mood and geography that New Jersey keeps to itself.
