Best known for his classic "rock" photographs, Elliott Landy was one of the first "music photographers" to be recognized as an "artist." His celebrated works include the Woodstock Festival (he was the official photographer), Bob Dylan (Nashville Skyline), The Band (Music From Big Pink, and The Band), Janis Joplin (Big Brother & The Holding Company: Cheap Thrills), Van Morrison (Moondance), Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and many others. A photo journalist as well, his early images documented and supported the rising tide of anti-war sentiment and spiritual awakening throughout the United States during the late 1960's.
He quickly moved on to another type of photography while traveling with his family through Europe for seven years in a forty passenger bus. His loving photographs of his children and their family journey were published as multi page stories in major magazines all over Europe.
The ideals of both personal and social freedom and the spirituality expressed by the Woodstock Generation are reflected in his later work with flowers (combining elements of impressionist painting with photography) and in the spiritual and artistic depth of his photo verite series which lovingly captures personal relationships between mothers and babies and a true romance with his wife in the later years of life. His photographs have been published worldwide in magazines, books, calendars, cards, etc., for over 35 years.
