Artist Statement
My images are spirited visual narratives that represent existential dilemmas, unanticipated interfaces, sci-fi, or crime scenes. They represent events and stories that have had an impact on my life. It’s my goal to use the friction between interior and exterior spaces to connect the viewer in a playful way to concepts seen or imagined. They are an expansion of the work I began in 2000, taking a concept and constructing an environment that visualizes an event or story in my imagination.
Process Statement
I first sketch my images. I then create -- sometimes out in the environment or in a industrial space, sometimes in miniature -- sets that may include drawings, paintings and lights. At the end of my process, I photograph my set for exhibition. At times I exhibit my sets or create installations.
The materials I use are everyday objects that many times represent the issue or story I’m depicting. I also want to show how we can re-purpose stuff – often tossed out -- to create artistic works.
