My project is a reflection on photography and on the challenges of representation in contemporary documentary photography. In my work I am using my gaze to question our ability to understand reality. And I am questioning the act of looking at the world as a mean for understanding it.
In addition the work is aiming to expose the unwritten agreements that exist between image makers and the audience. And though it is normally accepted that an image is receiving its meaning from the context in which it is shown; I am also questioning the role of the viewer in giving images their significance.
Can a photograph testify to the other photographs not taken? These picture point at the possibility of more then one narrative in a picture. They also reflect of the relationships between images, reality and the photographer
Lately, between raising my children and family and work, and other daily chores; I've been trying to create a quiet space where I can think and do my photographic work - but life keeps barging in.
I'm interested in the complexity of the human condition with all of its conflicts, ambivalence and contradictions. I'm looking at the way in which individuals struggle with their fears and how we strive to give meaning to our lives in this imperfect condition. My work is about how we use images to make sense of our world. It is about the ability of pictures to represent different realities and the gap that exists between reality and its representation in a photograph.
