Angela Fama seeks simplicity, finding it to be the truest, most descriptive element that is often lost in the clutter. She prefers to focus on removing details to bring out the strength of what is in front of her.
Dealing with subjects that have both darkness and light, duality is fundamentally found throughout Fama's entire body of photographic artwork. Pointing out vulnerable details ignored in the everyday, she creates portraits not only of people, but of people through places and things. With Fama’s simple approach to the subject matter, the necessity of balance between the half full/half empty in our universal everyday life is brought to focus in both the viewing and the creating of her work.
Angela Fama is an American born artist living in Vancouver, Canada. After spending three of her early highschool years in Zimbabwe and returning to Ottawa, Ontario for her last 2 years of secondary education, she declared to her mother: “I am dropping out if I don’t get to go to art school”. It was there she found her first Canon AE1, fun in the darkroom by cutting up bleached negatives and her general obsession for photography. After many more fine art and photo specific courses, including completing her Photo Imaging Diploma at Langara College in 2005, she is now a full time photographer. Blurring the lines between what she learns in her photographic career and consistently exploring the undiscovered in ones self through art and creative adventures.
